Introduction to Clay

 Grades K-2, Mondays 3:30-4:30, 6 weeks (6 students maximum), $190 

 

This class will be full of fun, individual expression, discovery, and new skill building. We will learn foundational ceramic skills as we create with durable clay. Students will be able to glaze and have pieces fired, resulting in useable, food safe creations to enjoy. Kids will learn how to construct coil pots, pinch pots, slab work and experiment with various mark making techniques such as stamping, carving and smoothing. They will explore three dimensional shapes, organizing parts to make a whole, patterns, structure and balance in form. and use clay to express mood, emotions and ideas. Class fee includes 6 hour long lessons via Zoom, a 12 pound bag of clay, a set of colored underglazes, bisque firing and glaze firing. All materials are non-toxic and school grade.

They will explore abstract and representational design, symmetry and asymmetry, proportion, pattern, positive and negative space and problem solving. They will also use clay to express mood, emotions, and ideas. Class fee includes 6 hour long lessons via Zoom, a 12 pound bag of clay, a set of colored underglazes, bisque firing and glaze firing.  All materials are non-toxic and school grade.

 

 

 

 

 Exploring Nature with Clay

 Grades K-3, Wednesdays 1:00-2:00, 6 weeks (6 students maximum), $190

 

By observing and using natural materials, kids will use their imaginations to create fanciful and useable pieces. Trees, leaves, flower, shells, weather patterns, rocks, animals and their habitats- the inspiration abounds. While learning foundational ceramic skills, students will create original pieces with durable clay. They will explore making patterns and textures with natural materials they gather from their surroundings, personal collections or even veggies from the garden/refrigerator! They will observe the the parts of a structure complete a whole, and create their own version of natural structures such as trees, shells or bee’s nests. They will also observe and create their own forms and colors of autumn leaves and grasses. They will use clay to express mood, emotions and ideas. Students will be able to glaze, and have pieces fired. Class fee includes 6 hour long lessons via Zoom, a 12 pound bag of clay, a set of colored underglazes, bisque firing and glaze firing. All materials are non-toxic and school grade.

Policies: Students/Parents are responsible for pick up and drop off of all items at 56 Yarmouth Road, Wellesley, MA. Please adhere to posted deadlines to ensure you have what you need for the next class. Tuition is non-refundable 5 days prior to session start date. Missed classes are non-refundable. Material kits are non-returnable and non-refundable once picked up. Elizabeth Cohen reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment up to 5 days prior to start date of class. A full refund will be issued.
